Generation I

Robert Chandler was born 31 August 1720 in Henry Co, VA and died 26 August 1805 in Lebanon, Wilson Co, TN.

When he was about 80, Robert saddled up, on horseback, with Isaac, Parks, Josiah, Ryland and Parthany and headed for Wilson Co., Tennessee. They went at least 400 miles, over rugged mountains, through the Cumberland Gap, and past unquiet Indian towns to Nashville barely out of the French Lick stage. He was in Goochland Co, VA Tithe Lists in 1746/1748 and in Cumberland Co, VA (formed 1749)

In 1754 (Cumberland Co, VA, Will Book 1, p100) and 1764 (Cumberland Co, Deed Book 4, p11)

He died in 1805 in Wilson Co, Tennessee leaving a will.

There is a sketch of him in "Thomas Powell and John Hardman", Vol II, 1985, by George Powell. His bible records survive in the Revolutionary pension papers of his son Josiah.

Bet. 1767 - 1768 - Listed as a Justice of the Chancery Court, appointed by Gov. Fauquier

February 1768 - Sworn in as Captain of Militia, Pittsylvania, Virginia

30 August 1777 - Pledged allegiance to Virginia, against the British

1778 Resigned as Justice, Vestryman, Militia captain, and Surveyor

1778 - Moved to Wilkes, North Carolina

Bef. 1790 - Moved to Laurens, South Carolina

 

He married Parthany Bailey or Eddins. She was born 27 November 1732 in Henry Co, VA and died 1805 in Wilson Co, TN.
